What we’re building with Lockyer
There comes a point when you have to stop trying to become something and start figuring out what you actually want to be.
For us, that point is now.
We're Will and Charlie Lockyer, two brothers from Northern Ontario making music together. For most of our lives, music has been the thing that brings everything into focus. It started with piano, guitars, singing around the house, and playing songs for family. Eventually, those living-room singalongs turned into recording sessions, stages, and shows that were a whole lot bigger than anything we imagined when we started.
For a long time, we were Lockyer Boys. And in a lot of ways, that name tells the story of where we came from.
But we're growing up. We're making different music. We're figuring out who we are outside of what people expect us to be.
So we're building something new.
A new chapter, not a clean slate
Lockyer is still us. The same brothers, the same voices, the same relationship that made us want to make music together in the first place.
What's changing is the way we're approaching it.
We spent a lot of time trying to figure out what would make us bigger, what would make us fit, and what we were supposed to look and sound like. Somewhere along the way, we started to feel like we were polishing away the very things that made this worth doing.
The moments that felt the most like us weren't always the biggest or most polished ones. They were the songs that came out of nowhere, the late nights figuring something out in a room, the honest performances, and the things we almost didn't post because they felt too personal.
Those were the moments people connected with.
We want to build around that feeling now. Less trying to be something for everybody. More making something that actually means something to us.
We're calling it Lockyer.
From Northern Ontario to Toronto
We grew up in Northern Ontario, where music became part of our lives long before it became our work. Our hometown has shaped the way we see things, the stories we tell, and the feeling we want our music to carry.
There is something about growing up somewhere that can make the world feel both incredibly small and impossibly big. You spend your time imagining what's out there, wondering what life might look like somewhere else, and eventually realizing that leaving doesn't necessarily mean leaving everything behind.
We've since made Toronto home. It's a different pace, a different world, and a new chapter for us as musicians.
Moving here has made us think a lot about what we're building and why. We're trying to create something that can grow beyond where we started without losing the parts of us that came from there.
That's the balance we're interested in: music that feels personal but doesn't belong to just one person. Songs that feel like memories, even when they're happening for the first time. Something cinematic, emotional, and a little messy around the edges.
Something that feels like life.
The music is changing, too
We're drawn to songs that feel like scenes from a coming-of-age film. The kind of songs that make an ordinary drive feel important, turn a night with your friends into a memory, or remind you of someone you haven't spoken to in years.
Our music has always come from real experiences, but we're becoming more comfortable letting those experiences speak for themselves.
Sometimes that means writing about love. Sometimes it's regret, distance, growing up, or realizing you've changed into someone you didn't expect. Sometimes we don't completely understand what a song is about until we've lived with it for a while.
We're working on a new collection of songs that reflects where we are right now. It's music made through a period of change: leaving one chapter behind, finding our footing in a new city, and trying to make sense of everything that happens in between.
We're excited to share it, but we're just as interested in everything that happens around the music: the versions that sound different in a room, the stories behind the lyrics, the performances that don't go exactly to plan, and the little moments that would otherwise disappear.
We want the finished songs to matter. We also want the process of making them to matter.
Building something real
We're not interested in pretending we have everything figured out.
We're two brothers trying to make something we're proud of, build a community around it, and see how far it can go without losing what made us start in the first place.
We want the shows to feel like something you were lucky to be there for. We want the songs to mean something different to you than they do to us. We want the things we share online to feel like an invitation into our world, not an advertisement for it.
And we want to build a place where all of that can live together.
That's part of the idea behind Lockyer House. It's a home for the music, the stories, the things we're making, and the people who want to be part of it. The Mailbox is where we'll send updates directly to you. The other rooms will take shape as we go.
We're still figuring it out. That's kind of the point.
Welcome to Lockyer
If you've been here since the early days, thank you for growing with us. If you're just finding us, you're not late.
This is a new chapter, but it isn't a reinvention for the sake of one. It's an attempt to get closer to what we've wanted to make all along.
We're building Lockyer around honest songs, real experiences, and the feeling that even the most ordinary parts of being young can become something you'll remember forever.
We're glad you're here.
